Hi everyone, this is going to be a lengthy post.

Beware of this unscrupulous firm named Letrain Events And Marketing Pte Ltd.
Letrain Events And Marketing Pte Ltd (company’s website)
My friends and I had some free time during the holidays so we decided to pick up this seemingly interesting event job being advertised by the above mentioned firm. To our horror, we had to work with a horrible and incompetent ‘supervisor’ named Yee Wee who always seemed lost with his own instructions. He also failed to reply properly and promptly to our queries during the job. To make matters worse, the company’s logistic department always seemed to have a miscommunication problem with the administrative side. This led to the logistics and event premium goodies being short-changed all the time. When this happened, they expected us to fork out money from our own pockets’ first to buy the logistics before the expense can be claimed. In the end, we got our pay delayed by 3-4 weeks and as I am typing this, we still have not received our pay. We were promised to be paid on 15th February which was a week after our last day of work on 8th February and we were asked to choose our preferred method of payment by cash, cheque or bank transfer.

On 15th February, our worst fear was realized. There was no news or payment from the horrendous company or incompetent supervisor. I went ahead and probe him, only to receive slow replies that took 4-5 hours each time. I was only told that our pay was still being checked, without any further reasoning or whatsoever, and that it will only be ready by the week of 18th February.

On the week of 18th February, I had to ask them about the proceeding of our pay again. The supervisor informed me that he was only going to retrieve the timesheet then to check on it. He then passed me the contact number of another guy named Daryl Tan Wei Yi who is from the finance department. Yee Wee then went MIA for 3 days without any replies. After contacting Daryl, I was given the explanation that their client company did not honour the pay so they could not approve our pay.

Following, on the week of 25th February, Yee Wee sent a message to confirm with me my preferred mode of payment transfer again and assured me that our pay will be ready by the week (3rd time!!!!!) and then went MIA again without any further replies. I called and texted him several times but there were still no replies.
So I turned my attention to the finance guy Daryl and asked him about the pay. Initially, he asked me if I was free the next day. I replied him that I had already opted for bank transfer earlier on and already mentioned it several times with his incompetent supervisor. He actually requested me to travel all the way to his office at Wanlee Road, in Jurong West to collect the pay as there were documentations to be signed. I felt puzzled as initially we were promised a banking transfer. So now, why the need for documentation?
To my dismay, he texted me that their company needed a form of documentation for their payments, and the only way was through banking slip or payment voucher, and that bank transfer was not possible. He also told me that due to a new fare ruling by DBS bank, a fee of $5 would be imposed on banking slip method so he wouldn’t consider that an option. Wow, an events company stingy enough to pay their part timers a meagre salary of $7/hour, went on to delay our pay for 3 weeks (come on I can make more than the puny $5 from the opportunity cost of holding this pay for 3 weeks already) yet doesn’t want to spend the fee of $5 to settle our pay. And he actually thinks that I travelling from the East all the way to the West was a better idea.

Because of this I actually had to juggle between studying for my university preliminary exams, chasing them for my pay and typing this long essay. I do not wish to waste more time travelling to the West to accommodate them. So I brought up the idea of consulting relevant authorities (Ministry of Manpower) to settle this pay issue.

He called me on 2nd Mar around 11p.m, to my utter amusement, this relentless guy decided to pursue the issue of discrepancies spotted in my timesheet. I had a heated argument with him. I do not wish to go into details. How are they sincere in paying me? Fancy calling me on a Saturday night and refused to give me my pay until they ensured everything was checked. This time round, he told me he would bank in my pay on the following Monday, 4th March.
I no longer wish to speculate further as they had already broken what they promised several times. My stand is that if I do not see my pay appearing in my bank account, I would head to MOM for their assistance. MOM’s employment act is inclusive for part timers in Singapore. Under the salary act, (adapted from MOM’s website: An employer is liable to pay his employee(s) within seven days after the end of the salary period, in accordance to the provisions of Part III of the Employment Act. Failure to pay salaries in accordance with provisions of the Employment Act is an offence. Employees who are not paid for work done can report employers to the Ministry for investigation. In general, all salary component must be paid within 7 days after the end of the salary period.)

In addition, I’ve managed to find out from my friend that the other part timers did not even received any sort of notifications or news regarding their pay in the same period from the same firm. They are just sitting at home, hoping that their pay would come in. My take on this is to go against them by reporting them to MOM. If not they would not bother about me, just like how they have neglected the other part timers.

As of Thursday 7th March, my friends and I have yet to receive our pay. However, we finally received a message from the supervisor, Yee Wee. He told us he cannot settle our pay, and once again, referred us back to Daryl. As of now, you all should have expected this, Daryl went missing again and we still have not received any replies from him.

Lastly, this thread is created to create awareness for part-timers seeking jobs, or for companies whom wish to outsource their events to this tainted company, not to fall into the same trap as we did.
