Out-of-favour Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi looks set to leave the club this week on a season-long loan deal to Roma, according to reports.

Mustafi has not played a single minute for the Gunners so far this season, and is ready to leave north London in the coming days.

With the European window not shutting until September 2, the German still has time to find his way to the exit, and reports state that Roma are trying to sign him.

Forza Roma write that a season-long loan deal has been lined up for this week, with the view to a permanent £23m move next summer.

David Luiz's arrival at the Emirates has knocked Mustafi down the pecking order, and he and Sokratis are set to be the first-choice defenders for Unai Emery.

Rob Holding and Calum Chambers, meanwhile, also appear to be ahead of Mustafi - and Roma seem the perfect destination as they search desperately for a new centre back.

The Serie A side sold Kostas Manolas to Napoli this summer, and Mustafi could still join in time to play the first game of the league season next Saturday.

Roma face Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico in their campaign opener, before travelling to Lazio the week after.
