REVENGE: Victim's friend involved in accident
KUALA LUMPUR: MORE than 100 residents at a housing project in Jinjang here attacked a Nigerian man on Thursday following an accident.
In the 6.45pm incident, private college student, Solomon Okolo, 29, and his friend went to the scene to help another friend after a Proton Wira car in which the latter was travelling knocked into a motorcyclist.
Okolo and his friend, however, were beaten when they arrived at the spot.
Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Zakaria Pagan said the two were rescued by policemen deployed to the scene to disperse the crowd.
"The accident involved the car Okolo's friend was in, a motorcycle and a lorry. The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries and we suspect that it sparked the anger of locals there. They then blocked the car.
"We are still investigating the incident. But Okolo and his friend were rescued and brought to the Jinjang police station to lodge a report.
"He collapsed when an investigating officer started to record his statement. We called an ambulance at 7.20pm but he was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived minutes later.
"His body was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem and the results revealed that he died of brain haemorrhage, believed to have been caused by a blunt object."
Later that day, about 50 Nigerians gathered at the Jinjang police station and created a stir.
The foreigners, comprising college students and Okolo's wife and son, demanded police accept responsibility for his death.
