I'm a NSF. Need urgent help on leave matters, please!
Basically, I was told that NSFs not allowed to apply for 10 consecutive weekdays of leave, otherwise the weekend in between is counted (i.e. 12 days instead of 10). Didn't know of any other restrictions. So anyway, this year Hari Raya Haji is on a Friday (26 Oct), so I applied for 4 days leave before Hari Raya (Mon-Thurs), followed by 6 weekdays after Hari Raya (Mon-Mon). The e-HR system allowed me to book the first 9 days, except for the last Monday, so I submitted paper leave to my department clerk.
So basically I already bought tickets for 16 days overseas trip (two weeks, with weekends at the start and end of the duration). Now my unit's HR just received the one-day paper application and tells me that my entire trip is not allowed, max is 14 days, and the public holiday in between does not split up the 14 days. I tried to cut short my trip by anywhere from 1-4 days, but the airline said all the flights are fully booked.
So I wanted to ask - what happens when I'm at the airport? Will they prevent me from leaving Singapore? Will they detain me when I come back? Or will they just give me a warning / fine or something? Will MINDEF care about the weekends at the start and end of my trip?
I know it was stupid of me to assume / buy the tickets before confirmation, but would appreciate advice from you guys on how I can realistically handle this issue if you were in my shoes, and you weren't going to pay a few thousand dollars to fly first class back to Singapore a few days earlier (which is my only option now, it seems...)
