Playing a wealthy philanderer Du Jiahong in Ch8 drama The Enchanted, local actor Desmond Tan filmed his first kissing scene nearly five years after his debut – and it was not just one scene.

Amid his hectic filming schedule in Malaysia for A Voyage, Desmond turned up at the press conference yesterday and shared with xinmsn on his “first time”. During the interview, the 26-year-old let on that he had a total of four smooching scenes with his female co-stars, namely Ya Hui, Akit Tay, Moo Yan Yee and a part-time actress.

Although the actor was a pack of nerves as it was the first time he had so much ‘lip action’, he decided to focus on the task at hand and eased into the role professionally. “I don’t worry too much once I devote myself to the character,” he said.

While speaking on the four kisses, each of which was presented differently, Desmond recalled how he was “slapped” by the part-time actress and “scolded” by Yan Yee after the respective scenes.

“Akit had to kiss me in the middle of our conversation, while the kiss with Ya Hui was the most ‘mutual’ one because we were acting as husband and wife,” he continued.

So, which kiss had the most “feel” for him?

Without much hesitations, he said, “The scene with Ya Hui felt the most natural and comfortable. We’re familiar with each other so it’s not so awkward.”

At the press conference, the pair revealed how they often went out for meals and movies together when they were filming in Malaysia, even travelling to Genting Highlands for a getaway during their break.

Ya Hui was clearly more embarrassed when she learned of Desmond’s comments on their “intimate moment”. The actress exclaimed, “Aiyoh, I’m so shy! He led us well and so I had to keep calm too. But it was still distressing!” during her interview with xinmsn.

Admitting that all she thought of on set was to “get it done” in one take, Ya Hui said that she felt uncomfortable about the kiss scenes “because we are not real life lovers”.

For the past two months, Desmond has been preoccupied with the filming of blockbuster drama A Voyage in Ipoh and Penang. The actor will be filming in Singapore for a month before flying to China with the crew to wrap up the drama’s production.

As a testament to his booming popularity, Desmond’s work opportunities have significantly increased in 2013. Yesterday, he also revealed that he will be leading a tour to Turkey as a celebrity tour guide later this year.

Catch The Enchanted when it airs every Monday to Friday at 7pm on Ch8, starting Aug 15.
