It looks like South Korean singer Psys worldwide hit song Gangnam Style continues to dominate different charts. This time, it broke popular video-sharing website YouTube.coms records and the music video became the most viewed video in the websites history, beating other artists such as Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, and Adele. With this, the Korean singer has become a Guinness Record holder and is now part of the Guinness Book of World Records.
The singer was formally recognized as a Guinness Record holder when he was presented with a certificate by officials of the Guinness Book of World Records last Thursday, November 8, in London. Upon receiving the certificate, Psy stated, Im honored. This is the first certificate Ive ever had I didnt get one at school. The editor-in-chief of the Guinness Book of World Records, Craig Glenday, remarked that the singer looked touched when he was awarded the certificate. He [Psy] even asked if he could keep it! Glenday said.
For the singer to receive this kind of record is to be expected. Since the release of the Gangname Style music video last July 12, it fast became a hit not only in Psys homeland, South Korea, but in other countries as well. The video received more than 4 million likes and was viewed for a whopping 660 million times as of this posting. With this popularity, parodies made by people from different parts of the world became rampant all over the Internet. Boys and girls and the young and old alike can be seen dancing the horse dance. Even famous celebrities joined in on the Gangnam Style craze. Famous TV host and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres once invited Psy as a guest in her show and the singer taught her and pop sensation Britney Spears how to do the horse dance.
