SINGAPORE - Clean and Green campaigns continue to be "a very important issue", said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this morning, as he noted that cleanliness standards in Singapore have gone down in recent years.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of "Our Clean & Green Home" campaign in Hougang, Mr Lee who is the grassroots adviser for Ang Mo Kio GRC said that despite the larger population, Singapore is greener than it was before.
However, people are using "their window as a dustbin", Mr Lee noted, adding that Singaporeans have "got a bit blasé" about keeping the country clean.
"I think we have to keep reminding people to take care of it and to improve it," Mr Lee said.
The two-year "Our Clean & Green Home" campaign is initiated by Ang Mo Kio Town Council and Community Centres and Clubs under Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West SMC. The clean and green campaign aims to reduce litter in common areas and maintain cleanliness in estates.
