I just read abt some scams in bolehland. Some guy will tell you some sob story and ask you for money and pple just give 'unknowingly'. Later then will suddenly 'wake up' and realize that you were scammed.
Someone provided this explanation and i recall seeing some show explaining the same thing...
scary leh....seems like if you are a 'nice' person, you'll be easily scammed....:vijayadmin: so next time if someone comes to you and as soon as you suspect it, fast fast walk away!!!

I know it is hard not to blame yourself...but if i may offer some words of comfort...these con artists are aware of how human mind works and use it to their advantage. I'm sure we have heard of stories of how some cashier at the counter will just hand over the money to the con artist and realised it minutes later, some people says it is "pukau", and some dismiss it as stupidity. But do we know how our mind works? In a nutshell, the conman had overloaded your critical mind (analytical & logical part of thinking) with his "story" and "sad gestures/behavior" and got his message bypassed into your subconscious mind, hence the feelings of compassion or kindness was trigger, subconsciously. The more you resisted, the more tired your analytical mind became and it is easier for the conman to have the upper hand over someone. Unless someone were highly alert of their surrounding and have mental preparation of being caution at all times, it is easy to fall to the trap of these people. They read people well and they use it to a negative advantage. The next best thing is to Walk away from the person whenever you feel uncomfortable. or just be stern and say "NO! Get away from me" regardless of how pitiful that person may look. Our culture had conditioned us to be polite to people and not to offend people, therefore it is consider rude (subconsciously) if you were to walk away/distance yourself from this conman when he was begging/grovelling/swear over his mother's grave/kneel down, etc. IMHO, I rather be rude to someone to protect myself from misfortune. |
