Interior designer gets jail for embezzling S$134,000 in clients' renovation payments

An interior designer and shareholder of an interior design firm pocketed S$134,000 in clients' payments for renovation projects over a year.

For one count of criminal breach of trust, with another two similar charges taken into consideration, 40-year-old Eugene Chia Hsien Yau was sentenced on Tuesday (Nov 24) to 10 months' jail.

The court heard that Chia was one of the shareholders of Interior Diary, a firm that was set up in 2016 with three other shareholders.

Chia was also a director at a sister company called Liquid Construction, from where he pocketed another S$20,000. This formed one of the charges taken into consideration.

As a project manager at Interior Diary, Chia was responsible for sales and liaising with clients for renovation projects, including the collection of payments.

Sometime in early 2017, Chia began misappropriating payments collected for these projects. He would submit part of the amounts collected from clients to the company's accountant, but keep the rest and use it on his personal expenses.

Between Mar 26, 2017 and Mar 23, 2018, he took S$134,381.60 in payment monies from clients across 11 renovation projects.

The director of Interior Diary caught wind of the crimes and lodged a police report in March 2019.

Chia's lawyer said his client has a relatively clean record and has made full restitution. He said his client was affected badly by COVID-19, with his father coming out of retirement to support him.

He asked for two weeks' deferment of the sentence, for Chia to do some touch-up work for renovation projects and to address financial issues for his family.

The judge allowed Chia to begin serving his sentence on Dec 14. For criminal breach of trust, Chia could have been jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.

Note: Stick to the thread.

Not sure anyone noticed, lately some MRT station one of the escalator
have been sealed off for maintenance.
Example Lakeside MRT one of the escalator is sealed off for repair
till Q1 2021.

I also noticed other stations like city hall also have escalator
sealed off for repair.
The weird thing about this is it seems the maintenance
is initiated across many stations.

Anyone also noticed this? Gosh how come the repair need to
take few months to complete?
Luckily they leave one escalator for people to ride up.

10 Principles of Money/Capital I Learnt From My Observations

1. Cash is not king. Inflation is.

2. Master inflation, master capital.

3. Money is absolute. Capital is relative. Understanding and mastering the latter is the first step to wealth.

4. Rich get richer, by function of high absolute savings quantum and hence capital, resulting in assets ownership from purchasing power.

5. Poor remains poor (generally), by function of low absolute savings quantum and hence low capital for asset ownership and (often) misguided concepts of money/capital.

6. To get from poor to rich, you need high savings to build capital, and high investments to generate more capital. This conceptually applies to individuals, companies, nations.

7. Debt that generates capital is good. Debt that fuels further consumption is bad. Former provides capital/labor leverage to wealth; Latter snowballs you to oblivion.

8. Government favors inflation - national debt to its creditors (citizens, foreign investments) remains notional and gets inflated away.

9. Uncontrolled inflation topples governments.

10. Capital, inflation, govt budgets, pension funds - they are all but functions of time. How long can the money last such that the vested interest of an individual/company/nation can be held perpetually. When vested interests are aligned, great. When not, social fabric gets tested.

I won’t call him siaolang cause that is a derogatory term.
He does this 24/7/365. You can see he has this blank look in his eyes.

He will walk around this small garden near to a coffeeshop and he will either be smoking or drinking coffee / tea.

I feel like asking why he is doing this 24/7/365z
